SME Bank Approved RM9.8 Billion In Loans To SMIs [ 02-08-2010 ]
KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- A total of RM9.8 billion in loans
involving 5,447 applications from small-and-medium industries (SMIs)
were approved by the SME Bank from 2006 till June this year, the Dewan
Negara was told Tuesday.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr
Mahathir said 70 per cent of the applications involved the services
sector and the rest the manufacturing sector.
"SME Bank's gains ranged from 3.57 per cent to around seven per cent,
depending on the funding criteria imposed by the bank," he said when
winding up debate on the 10th Malaysia Plan for his ministry.
He said that based on the bank's mandate to help bumiputera SMIs, the
bank also provided other financial aid like its Biotechnology
Entreprenuers Programme, Halal Hub Programme, Agro-Based Programme and
Outsourcing Programme.
He added that 90 per cent of the beneficiaries of these programmes were bumiptera SMIs.
The Dewan sits again Tuesday.
