PUTRAJAYA, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi International Dialogue enters its second day today, with African and Caribbean leaders and delegates set to be briefed on Malaysia's new and innovative development policies.

The briefing will be given by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Idris Jala, who is also the chief executive officer of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit in the Prime Minister's Department.

They are expected to be briefed in-depth on the 1Malaysia: People First, Performance Now concept, Government Transformation Programme, Economic Transformation Programme and New Economic Model.

They will also take time off from their deliberations at the LID to take a boat cruise in the scenic Putrajaya Lake.

Later in the afternoon, the leaders will proceed to Cyberview Lodge in Cyberjaya to discuss the food and energy security issue, social media for transformation, global movement of the moderates and future direction of the LID and smart partnership.

It is likely that the leaders will also decide the host for the Southern African International Dialogue next year at a working dinner tonight.

For delegates, there will be a "smart partnership dialogue in the field" which will include visits to Proton, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, Multimedia Development Corporation and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

They will also visit the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi), Universiti Putra Malaysia, both in Serdang, as well as the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (Sirim).

The visits are to showcase the participants Malaysia's economy in transition with regard to competitiveness in manufacturing, sustainable development, agriculture and promoting ICT enterprises.

They will also be furnished with information on how Malaysia nurtures small and medium enterprises (SME) start-ups in biotechnology.

The second day will also see breakout discussions for Club 29ers, involving youth representatives from LID participating countries.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Kenya's Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on the sidelines of LID2011 at Cyberjaya later today.
