Matrade urges SMEs to carry out research before investing in China [ 20-06-2011 ]

SMALL- and medium-scale entreprises (SME), in Johor, embarking on business ventures in China are urged to be extra careful.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) construction service and building materials trade and service promotion division director Ong Yew Chee said detailed research was a must for joint ventures in the China market.

He said this would help entrepreneurs to choose the right business opportunities because the China market was not easily penetrable.

"We encourage businessmen to work with Matrade as we are able to provide assistance in doing business in China," said Ong, at the 8th China-Asean Promotion Expo (Caexpo) press conference in Johor Baru recently.

He added that getting thoroughly informed about the background of a prospective client would benefit entrepreneurs.

Ong urged SMEs to pay attention to developing cities in China to reap financial rewards.

"Developing cities such as Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Suzhou and Tianjin should be explored further because of their emerging business markets," he said.

The annual conference will take place from Oct 21 to 27 in Nanning, China. It is a platform for promoting and developing programmes related to trade, property, investment, education, environmental conservation and tourism between China and Southeast Asian nations.
