KOTA KINABALU, May 11 (Bernama) -- Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Sabah have been asked to explore trade opportunities available at the International Trade Malaysia (INTRADE) to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 22 to 24.
In making the call, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Sabah director Syed Zahirulddin Syed Ali said there was huge potential for them as exhibitors would be able to showcase their local products and services to the expected 9,000 visitors from 80 countries.
"At the same time, they can build contacts with other exhibitors from Malaysia, Asean countries and the rest of the world as well as traders from 60 countries.
"We also want them to meet agents and distributors who can market their products or services in new markets," he told reporters here today.
Syed Zahirulddin said the INTRADE 2011 would give SMEs in the state the chance to explore join venture opportunities with prospective players at the global level and interact with business leaders, entrepreneurs and investors to gain insights into global business prospects.
"They can also have discussions with trade counsellors from various partner countries and understand their local market conditions," he said.
Syed Zahirulddin said last year's event, which drew 440 trade buyers, 8,000 trade visitors and 342 exhibiting companies from 12 countries, generated RM4.23 billion in potential sales.
He said the 5th Malaysia international event for exporters was the ideal platform to enhance networking and businss matching to exchange trade ideas and bring the global market to the business community of different countries.
The Malaysian government fully supported and endorsed this event and has strategically positioned INTRADE as one of the leading general trade fairs in the Asean region, he added.
