Malaysia SME Congress To Attract 500 SMEs [ 05-05-2011 ]

SHAH ALAM, May 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia SME Congress 2011, which is set to attract participants from 500 small and medium enterprises (SME), is expected to be a platform of inspiration to encourage local SMEs to create an edge and reach out to the global market.

The annual congress, organised by the Malaysia SME Paper and themed "It's All About SME" will be held on July 6 at the Shah Alam Convention Center.

Malaysia SME's Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Lim said the congress would be featuring Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his capacity as the founder of The Loaf, a Japanese inspired bakery which has made waves among the upmarket consumers in Malaysia.

Lim said the fourth premier has expanded his endeavours and has been successful in all of them including expanding The Loaf as a successful SME with impeccable branding.

"We want the speakers to come and share their success stories to motivate and inspire other SMEs," Lim told reporters after the launch of Malaysia SME Congress 2011, here Wednesday.

Other prominent speakers would be the founder of Sirivat Sandwiches, Sirivat Voravetvuthikun, who is known as the "Sandwich Man" by the global media.

Others include Michelle Lau, founder and managing director of Cliff Ink Sdn Bhd, Malaysia's contemporary batik producer for the global market and Harvinder Singh, managing director of Incontrol Tech Sdn Bhd, a regional player in the automation technology industry.

"This year, our speakers have gained global reach and recognition due to the unique nature of their business operations," Lim said.

A dialogue session on "Differentiation in Branding, Advertising and Promotion Philosophy" will also be held during the congress to highlight on the importance of branding.

The congress is endorsed by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and supported by SME Corporation Malaysia, The Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce, Small and Medium Enterprises International Co-Operation Association of Malaysia, Small and Medium Enterprises Association, National SME Council and the Asian Women Business Network.
