Foreign Investors Urged To Explore Opportunities In Halal Industry In Perlis [ 09-03-2012 ]
ASTANA (Kazakhstan), March 3 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, has invited foreign investors, including those from Kazakhstan to explore investment opportunities in the halal industry in the state. He said the halal industry had a lot of potential and Perlis was in a strategic location as it bordered Thailand which had a lot of Muslims in the south. Speaking at a meeting with Marat Sarsenbayev, the president of the Kazakhstan International Halal Industry here Saturday, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin hoped that the privileged position of Perlis would grab the attention of foreign investors. "The strategic location with Thailand creates the potential for collection activities, repackaging and production of halal products for both the local market and export," he said. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin is leading a delegation from the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIP) on a working visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan which began on Thursday. Also, the President of MAIP, he said investors in the halal industry not only had the potential of marketing products and services for the Malaysian population but also the five districts in southern Thailand which had a combined population of 20 million Muslims. Other benefits to be found in Perlis was the facility of an electrified double track railway line from Padang Besar-Ipoh, which will be completed next year. This is alongside a logistics facility via the proposed Inland Clearance Depot (ICD) to be implemented in Padang Besar. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said there was also to be found support industries in the Padang Besar industrial area, particularly, in the logistics sector for the implementation of the halal industry. Meanwhile, Sarsenbayev said he realised the strong halal industry's potential and in a number of matters, had followed the implementation of the halal certification, as done in Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
