Najib To Chair Status Meeting On ETP Projects In January [ 11-01-2012 ]

IPOH, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will chair a meeting next month to review the status of projects implemented under the Economic Transformation Programme, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

He said the meeting would also be attended by the Treasury secretary-general and members who make up the committee which is tasked with the responsibility of studying and reviewing the achievements made, thus far, with the projects.

Ahmad Husni said bottlenecks which prevent the completion of the projects on schedule would also be discussed.

"More than 80 per cent of the 131 projects identified under the ETP are already being implemented and the government has already disbursed the required funds.

"There are some projects which would be take between two and three years to complete while others can take up to 10 years," he told reporters after attending a function in Kampung Cik Zainal, near here.

Ahmad Husni explained that proper planning was necessary to ensure there were no delay in completing the projects.

Meanwhile, he said Malaysia's economic growth would not be jeopardised next year although several European economies have yet to recover from Euro zone crisis.

He added that if the situation in Europe did not deteriorate further, economic growth in 2012 would be higher than forecast as Malaysia exported to several European destinations.

"Many analysts predict that the US economy will see positive growth in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

"The forecast is higher than initial estimates," he added.
